My reasons for volunteering to be President were motivated by frustration and disappointment but I learned that those are not necessarily bad reasons. “Be the change you want to see” and all that. Or better yet, if you want something done well (or how you want it done), do it yourself. This attitude is applicable from school clubs to national politics.
It was a small gig, just a regional chapter of a state professional organization of a relatively new profession in NY. But it was New York City. A chapter member once told me that was pretty badass. It does feel pretty good to look back at it that way.
Thank you NYMHCA Metro for the good times and the bad! Because of you I learned that it’s worth taking on some additional responsibility to accomplish something you are passionate about. I look forward to similar and bigger challenges in the future.
